Domestic Abuse Act 2021
New help and protection for victims and their children under the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
On Thursday 29 April 2021, the Domestic Abuse Bill was signed into law. The Domestic Abuse Act will provide further protection to the millions of people who experience domestic abuse everyday and strengthen measures to address perpetrators. The new definition of domestic violence and abuse in law now states - any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality.
Children who “see, hear or experience the effects of” domestic abuse, and are related to the two people, are specifically covered under the new definition.
Tackling Domestic Abuse is a priority for Coventry. This website will be updated with further content in relation to the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
